Greensboro, Ga. (September 28, 2020) – The Lake Oconee Academy (LOA) Cheer Titans are proud to announce that seniors Belle Benton and Katie Ciavola were named Top 30 finalists in the Georgia Cheerleading Coaches Association (GCCA) All-State cheerleader competition for 2020-2021. Ciavola will compete as a finalist for the Cheerleader of the Year scholarship program.
The GCCA All-State cheerleading team nominees from across the state began submitting applications in May 2020. The nomination pool was then condensed to 30 cheerleaders for divisions 1A-4A and 30 cheerleaders for divisions 5A-7A. LOA was thrilled to have two nominees, Benton and Ciavola, in the distinguished 1A-4A Top 30.
The next phase of the review required the 60 finalists to submit a video that included a stunt group performance, jumps, standing tumbling, running tumbling, dance, and a solo cheer. Finalists then participated in a Zoom interview with GCCA coaches. Ciavola was selected as a top 16 finalist from the 1A-4A division for the All-State cheerleading team. All-State team members receive a scholarship, patch, and medal from the GCCA.
“Katie is an extremely well-rounded student that excels academically, athletically, and socially,” said Jennifer Blythe, head coach of LOA’s cheer program. “Her natural aptitude for learning is evident in her heavy academic schedule including numerous Advanced Placement (AP) courses, where she continues to shine academically. The invaluable aspect of Katie is not only her academic aptitude but also her love for her community. This past year she was a vital part of the new cheer program launched at the local Pete Nance Boys & Girls Club. Along with two of her friends, Katie helped create and maintain an extremely successful cheer program for our local kids.”
Ciavola is now in contention for the 2020-2021 Cheerleader of the Year award for her division which will be announced at the Georgia High School Association Cheerleading State Championships on February 16, 2021.
